Method 1 - Accessing the Configuration Menu
By using a Web Browser Method
1. First of all, when you are going to arrange your router hook it up to a computer via Ethernet cable. Be sure to connect the wires properly unless changes are made to the wireless network. Open any of the browsers and type the Router’s address in the address bar.
2. Most of the Linksys Routers can be accessed by using the 192.168.1.1.
3. If you are having any issue in accessing the Linksys router from your browser, then disable the ‘Web Management’ option and press the Reset button on the back of the Router to reset its factory defaults.
4. Enter your user name and password
When you try to access the Router via Web Browser, you need to login credentials. These credentials may vary as per the Routers but the default may be listed in your documents. In most of the cases for default settings, user names ‘Admin’ and passwords are also ‘Admin’, once completed, click on the login button to get started with your Linksys device.
2. Use configuration software
Most of the Linksys Routers are available with a CD to install its configuration. This will enable you to modify the settings without connecting to a web browser. It does not require any changes to log in or password details. Once you get started with configuration software, there will be the same menus as in the Web Browser menu.

1. Click on the Wireless Tab
First of all, click n the wireless tab. When you start the configuration by this method, you will be redirected to the ‘Basic Set-Up page’. Keep all the settings at their default unless you are specified by your ISP. When you click on the Wireless tab, you will be taken to ‘Basic Wireless Settings’. This section will allow creating a secure wireless network from its default settings.
2. Give a Specific name to your Network
In the ‘Basic Wireless Settings,’ there is an option for ‘Wireless Network Name (SSID)’. This is a specific name to your network which is available in the list of available networks. Anyone can see this name in your local area when people try to find out a list of available networks nearby.
3. Enable broadcast
Keep the Network mode and Channel to its default settings unless specified by ISP. Be sure to keep the ‘Enable’ option ‘ON’ for ‘Wireless SSID Broadcast’. This will automatically ‘TURN ON’ your ‘Wireless Network’ on and discovered. Once it is discovered click on the ‘Save Settings’ button.
4. Protect your Network
Click on the Wireless Security Button to set up security settings. You can easily set up a Security Encryption type and password here.
For security mode, try to set this to WPA2, as it is one of the latest options for security encryptions most secure way to protect our network. Some of the older devices do not support WPA2, and then you can go with WPA or WEP.
The next thing is to set the password for your network that people need to enter when they try to connect with your network. Be sure to keep a strong password so that you can protect your home network from unwanted groups.
